Berbers and Bolt Action

Just finished up a few additions for my Berbers and Waffen SS armies

The unit of eight elements of four figures each displaying their standards.  The figures are a mix of Ral Partha Moors, and Ottomans from the condottieri line, as well as a smattering of Citadel Arabs from their Dark Ages line.  The banners are mostly inspired by Little Big Men, but the middle banner is completely scratch built and painted ala El Cid.

I particularly like the way the shields of Ben Yusef's Black Guard came out.  I used a variety of metallics with black lining to bring out the detail.

The black banner is simply folded paper painted and stiffened with white glue, but what really adds a nice touch is the addition of the horse hair tassels on the ends of the cross pole.

I've really enjoyed the Bolt Action games I have played and painting WWII camo is a nice change from all of the Ancients and Dark Age figures I've been working on.

Flowers might be a bit much and would probably have been trampled into the ground, but you have to love the way they set off the figures.

Here we have an HMG pouring fire into the unsuspecting Americans (or Russians).  I decided to base them separately to facilitate taking casualties off the board.  The tufts are by a gentleman in Australia known as Leadbear.  I highly recommend them.

Islamic Berber/Moorish Spearmen Finished

Just finished up the Moorish or Berber Spear elements. The standard bearers are converted Citadel Arab Ghazi fanatic swordsmen from their DA line. I'd love to get some of their slingers and command elements so let me know if you find any at reasonable prices. http://www.fanaticus.org/discussion/...ad.php?t=17200
Here they are in all of their fanatic glory:

Next up will be some more spear elements to represent the Black Guard units of Ben Yusef himself.

Moorish Spearmen or Invasion of the Smurfs

I found some more Ral Partha Moorish spearman for my Berber army.  I have decided to go with a uniform look for the heavy infantry and they will be in the traditional blue Berber robes.  I just couldn't resist posting a picture at this stage because it really does look like an invasion of Grandpa Smurfs!

Berbers for the Ral Partha 1200 AD project

The Berber light infantry are done. These are designed to be used with multiple gaming systems. I have the Psiloi for DBA, but when combined with the 3 Bow stands can be used for Kings of War or other Warhammer-esque systems. We have a group wanting to use the War and Conquest system so hopefully these will work for that as well.

Bolt Action Germans Second Squad

This is my second squad of Germans made from 28mm Wargame's Factory plastics.  These are an improvement over the first squad, as I used a lighter khaki as the base coat of the camo jackets which helped tone down the green overall.  I also like the option of adding a combat leader in a fatigue hat rather than an officer's cap.  I think the squad leader of the third squad will be in a helmet.

Magical Ballerina Fairy with Rainbow Laser on Flying Unicorn

OK, I recognize this one may need a bit of explaining.  My daughter gave this to me for Christmas and I have fashioned it into a rather pastel Barker Marker for DBA.  I love the figure and as is usual with sculptures by Tom Meier, the faces are awesome.  These are definitely not push over princesses!  I also have to admit that despite the unusual paint palette, I really enjoyed working on this one.

American Civil War Skirmish Figures

These are a group of Dixon figures that I have been slowly adding to, but just haven't posted many pictures of them.   They are super fun to paint despite the giant heads which I still really actually enjoy.  They look great on the battlefield.  I have 30 or so of the Pennsylvania Bucktails armed with Spencer rifles, as well as a unit of 10 Berdan's sharpshooters also armed with the Spencers.  Next up:  The cavalry!
